Recommended Reading for Kids: The Winter of Red Snow

The Winter of Red Snow by Kristiana Gregory is one of the Reading Kingdom’s recommended books for children. Reading expert and Reading Kingdom creator, Dr. Marion Blank explains why:

The Revolutionary War represents an amazing period that has something important to say to practically everyone.  This book is wonderful for offering the perspective of a young girl’s  experiences with this vital part of our history. It is the fictional diary of Abigail Stewart, an 11-year-old from Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. The material offers a picture of 18th century America while simultaneously letting us see the way this main character matures from an innocent who views war as an adventure to a far more sophisticated person who understands the sacrifices being made. It is history come alive through its vivid details and powerful feelings.
