Recommended Reading for Kids: Little House in the Big Woods

Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder, is one of the Reading Kingdom’s recommended books for children. Reading expert and Reading Kingdom creator, Dr. Marion Blank explains why:

Some authors have the power to create books that simultaneously offer solid information and powerful emotions. Little House in the Big Woods is one of these books. It yields fascinating details about pioneer life in the Midwest in the late 1800s, from bear-meat curing to maple-tree sapping to homemade bullet making. It makes history come alive. At the same time, it conveys powerful emotional messages through the struggles and accomplishments of a family working together under difficult conditions. Although the main character is a girl, boys will enjoy the many adventures that appear throughout the book.
