Great Math Apps for Kids: Math Bingo

The Reading Kingdom is a great homeschooling curriculum for reading, but how do you teach your kids about math? If you aren’t mathematically inclined yourself, it can be a challenge to think of fun ways to practice math skills with your children. How do you find ways to incorporate math practice in your child’s life and make it both relevant and enjoyable? Automatic recall of math facts takes hours of practice and repetition; surely there must be a better way than boring flashcards! Math Apps, Homeschool Apps, Education Apps,

Thankfully touch screen mobile technology makes it incredibly easy to place fun, age appropriate math games in the hands of your child, getting them the practice they need to become confident young mathematicians! Math games no longer need to include many small pieces, printing and cutting, or expensive manipulatives, you can download them to your iPhone, iPod, or iPad in a few minutes, and be ready to play with your child! So, where do you get started? In the following weeks, I’ll be sharing my recommendations for learning to count, adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, and even time and money with great interactive apps.

All four basic operations of Math, including Division, Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction are equally important when forming a solid foundation for mathematics. That’s why my first math app recommendation is Math Bingo!

Math Bingo covers all four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) in several difficulty levels, bringing the classic bingo concept to the touch screen with fun animated ‘bingo bugs’ your child can earn and play with as rewards for successfully answering math questions.

I have to admit that the first time I heard of Math Bingo I thought it sounded a bit boring, maybe even trite. I finally bought it though, and I’ve been very pleased. The fun animations, bingo bug interactivity and bonus game, and catchy music all combine to make practicing math fun for kids. My daughter is always excited to earn a new bingo bug, and bingo bug bungee is really fun to play! My little girls are always trying to tackle Math Bingo even though they aren’t ready for it (thankfully Junior Bingo came out recently so they have their own bingo bugs now).

As a mom of many (4 so far) I really appreciate that you can set up multiple players and that their scores are all kept track of individually. My daughter (8) likes that she can choose her own avatar – don’t personal avatars make everything more fun?

Math Bingo is available as a universal app (iPhone/iPod/iPad) – $0.99
