Summary:
Woolbur is the main character in this delightful new picture book. He is a sheep who marches to his own drum, he strays from the flock. He loves to do what he wants, when he wants, much to the chagrin of his parents. He likes to run with the wild dogs, wants to keep his wool (rather than shear it) and take care of it himself.
When Woolbur’s parents reach the end of their rope, they demand that Woolbur, “…follow the flock, dear. It is what sheep do.” After a sleepless night, Woolbur comes up with an ingenious way to skirt his parents decree. Instead of staying with the herd, like everyone else, Woolbur teaches the herd to run with the dogs. Instead of shearing his wool like everyone else, Woolbur teaches the herd to let their wool grow. And so on. At the conclusion, we see Woolbur’s parents worry now they won’t be able to tell Woolbur from the rest of the crowd, now that the crowd is following Woolbur…but Woolbur’s ever-wise Grandpa says, “Don’t worry.”
