Classroom requirements

I have personally used Reading Kingdom with a wide range of students. It provides the most complete method for teaching reading and writing that I have seen in the eleven years that I have been teaching primary students. Thank you for this outstanding program.

Catherine Smith, elementary school teacher

Reading Kingdom's requirements are very simple - a web-connected computer is all you need. Then just sign up, add as many reader accounts as required (or contact us and we'll take care of it for you) and the Reading Kingdom program will handle the rest.

At the beginning, the program briefly evaluates students' skills so it can start them off at the level appropriate for their abilities.

Since Reading Kingdom adapts to each student, the length of time required to complete the program depends on his or her skills. If a student begins at the very beginning, it takes about 12-15 months to complete the entire set of lessons. Many students, who already have reading skills, can complete the program in as few as 3-6 months.

Checklist for what you need to use the program

A computer and a mouse period We recommend using a mouse instead of a trackpad, or other pointing device, because it's easier for children to operate. It does not have to be the latest and best computer. Any computer will do.

Web access Your Internet connection does not have to be the best or the fastest. Any connection will work (though faster is preferred).

A free Internet browser Such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome or Safari) and the free Flash player (available from Most computers already have these installed.

A quiet, distraction-free place to learn period Multiple computers can be used one location as long as the students have headphones to hear the audio.

An adult to supervise a student getting started Adult supervision is typically only required at the beginning of the program. Once a student has become familiar with the program, he or she can typically use it independently. A single adult can supervise multiple children simultaneously.

Students should be at least 4 years old, be able to sit quietly and pay attention for 15 minutes at a time, and they should be able to use a mouse The ability to use a mouse with some adult assistance as outlined in the program's included instructions is fine.

To ensure success, a student should use Reading Kingdom at least four days per week
