Recommended Reading for Kids: Harold and the Purple Crayon

reading-for-kids-Harold -and-the-Purple-CrayonHarold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson, is one of the Reading Kingdom’s recommended reading for kids. Reading expert and Reading Kingdom creator, Dr. Marion Blank explains why:

Imagination is a fabulous gift and Harold is a wonderful example of just how marvelous it can be. Harold is a cherubic boy who decides to go for a “walk in the moonlight.” Armed with a purple crayon, he draws himself a world of full of beauty and adventure. Then, he has to find his way home. Once again, his imagination serves him well. He remembers how he used to see the moon through the window of his room. And so all he needs is to draw a box around the moon – now he is inside looking out.

This is a book that young readers love both to read on their own and to have it read to them.
