Sweet Book Summary:

Sometimes the best idea is right in front of you, but it’s hard to see it until you’ve looked around a bit, first. That’s pretty much how it goes for young Lily when she decides to make her own Halloween costume. She just can’t make up her mind as to what she should be! Consulting only her two adorable kittens, Fluff and Frisky, Lily tries out a number of different options, but nothing feels quite right. Like Goldilocks in The Three Little Bears, every costume idea seems to be “too” something. They are too clumsy, too mean, too scary or even too glittery. In the end, Lily finally realizes that the best idea had actually been there all along…hint, hint, The Three Little Kittens.

Yes, this is a story about Halloween, but it’s also about problem solving without the help of an adult. Lily goes through the decision making process on her own, using only her imagination and a variety of household props, until she comes to a conclusion that makes her feel good. The watercolor illustrations fill the pages with colorful costumes and the warm orange hues of pumpkins and falling leaves that will get readers into the spirit of the season. There is plenty to look at, with action on almost every page. Fluff and Frisky are part of every scene, occasionally stealing the show with their funny facial expressions. This book is definitely a treat for Halloween!
