Recommended Reading for Kids: The Phantom Toll Booth
Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster, is one of the Reading Kingdom’s recommended books for children. Reading expert and Reading Kingdom creator, Dr. Marion Blank explains why:
Do you ever hear your child complaining that “I’m bored.” or “It’s boring.” Then this book provides the perfect remedy. It’s an adventure novel about a boy named Milo who tops the list of bored children. His motto is that “almost everything is a waste of time.” All that changes when he is the recipient of a magic tollbooth. Since he has, as usual, nothing to do, he decides to drive through it in his toy car. That results in his being transported to a land called the Kingdom of Wisdom where, accompanied by two new friends that he acquires, he experiences endless adventures. For decades, this original, witty, and oftentimes hilarious novel, has brought a world that is anything but dull to countless numbers of children. It is a marvelous read.
