Ben and Me is a light-hearted biography of Benjamin Franklin as told by his mouse, Amos. Perfect for kids ages 7 and older, this book will delight, entertain and educate children. Reading expert and Reading Kingdom creator, Dr. Marion Blank explains why.
History is fascinating but few books in the area are written with a powerful sense of humor. Not so with Ben and Me. In it, the author is supposed to be a mouse who presents himself as the “real” originator of Franklin’s most important contributions. Children from about 9 years can read this on their own, but 7 and 8-year-olds will enjoy hearing the book read to them.
Before starting the book, it is helpful to give your child a brief overview of when Ben Franklin lived and his many achievements. Appropriately enough, the Franklin Institute (one of the many institutions carrying his name) offers a good, in-depth review.
