Teach a child to read - is it right for your child?

The Reading Kingdom teaches children 4-10 years old how to read and write to a third grade level. Before teaching your child to read, the program evaluates each child and places him or her at the appropriate level in the program. This means that the program works for almost all children in this age range including early readers, accelerated readers and struggling readers. Because the Reading Kingdom customizes itself to each child, it's the ideal program for teaching children at all levels how to read and write to the third grade.

Early Readers

Teach a child to read who is as young as four. Children as young as four who have not yet learned to identify letters or use a mouse and keyboard can learn to read using this program. More advanced readers can use the program to move quickly to a third grade reading and writing level.

Accelerated Readers

Teach a child to read who already knows the basics of reading. Advanced readers can use the program to move rapidly to a third grade reading and writing level.

Struggling Readers

Teach a child to read who is struggling. Children who are behind in their school reading curriculum will learn the skills they need to move ahead using this program. Many very bright children are left behind by a school curriculum that fails them. These same kids thrive when they are taught using the Reading Kingdom's comprehensive 6-skill system. The program is also fun to use and success-based, which converts bored and resistant readers into enthusiastic ones. Additionally, the Reading Kingdom is ideal for teaching children who have dyslexia, ADHD and other learning disabilities to read.

Getting started with the Reading Kingdom

To get started all you need is a computer and an internet connection. Then just sign up for a free trial, add a reader account (or more than one) and the Reading Kingdom program will take care of the rest. The program will briefly evaluate your child's skills and start him or her off at exactly the right level.

The length of time a child will need to complete the program varies depending on his or her skills. To complete the entire set of components takes about 12-15 months, assuming a child starts at the first level and completes four to five sessions a week. Many children, who already have some reading skills, can often complete the program in as few as 3-6 months. Children can also move through the program more quickly by doing more than 4 sessions per week.

Checklist for what you need to use the program

A computer with a mouse

A computer and a mouse or a tablet such as an iPad (Android and Windows tablets work too). It does not have to be the latest and best device. Any device will work (but newer devices will provide a better experience). If using a computer, we recommend a mouse over a trackpad or other pointing device, because it's easier for children to operate.

Internet access

Your Internet connection does not have to be the best or the fastest. Any connection will work (though faster is preferred).

Your computer needs a free web browser

A free Internet browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge. Most computers already have these installed.

An adult to supervise a child logging on and getting started

Adult supervision is typically only required at the beginning of the program. Once a child has gotten familiar with the program, he or she can normally use it completely independently. In fact, the program relies on adult supervisors not assisting a child so that the program can accurately determine a child's reading level and whether he or she has learned the material. One adult can supervise multiple children simultaneously.

Students should be at least 4 years old, be able to sit quietly and pay attention for 15 minutes, and they should be able to use a mouse

(The ability to use a mouse with some adult assistance as outlined in the program's included instructions is fine).

To ensure success, a child should use the program at least 4 days per week
